After months of speculation, rumors, and leaks, we finally have confirmation of the groundbreaking new Apple Products. On Tuesday, September 12, Apple held a special event in the new Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino, California. This is where Apple announced a 4K Apple TV, the new Apple Watch 3, and an iPhone 8 and 8+, as well as the long awaited iPhone X.

Apple Watch Series 3

The Apple Watch Series 3 now has LTE capabilities, which means you can make and receive calls directly from your watch. The watch has water resistancy of up to 50 meters for 30 minutes. The watch is also sold in a non-LTE version which can still call and text; however, it requires a bluetooth connection with an iPhone to receive notifications. The internal dual core processor is 70% faster than the Series 2 watch. Apple also announced  WatchOS 4, which is a new operating system for the watch. The LTE watch starts at $399 and the non LTE starts $329.

iPhone 8/8+

The iPhone 8 and 8+ are updated versions of the IPhone 7/7+. They don’t have many new features but there are a couple new upgrades. The back is now made of glass. This allows for wireless charging, making it the first iPhone to do so. It also has a new portrait mode for the camera which edits the lighting on your face in real time. It can also blur the background of your picture for a more defined selfie. The Phone 8/8+ still has an IP67 water resistance rating which means it can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes. The 4.7 inch display iPhone 8 starts at $699 and the 5.5 inch display iPhone 8+ starts at $799.

iPhone X

The iPhone X is the greatest smartphone since the original iPhone. The new screen covers the entire front of the device except for a small notch at the top, which allows for more viewing surface. The screen is an OLED display (Organic Light Emitting Diode). This offers deeper blacks, brighter whites, and more vibrant colors. The OLED display also allows for better viewing angles, lower power consumption, and can bend to create screens that spill over the edges of the phone. These features are also found on the Samsung Galaxy S8. The glass back allows wireless charging, like the iPhone 8, and has Aerograde stainless steel around the edges.

The notch at the top of the display has a selfie camera, a TrueDepth camera, an infrared sensor, a dot sensor, a flood illuminator, a microphone, a proximity sensor, an ambient light sensor, and a stereo speaker. You may have realized it lacks of the iconic home button due to the larger display, so to replace that Apple rolled out a new feature called, “Gestures.” Gestures are how you navigate the iPhone X. For example, to go to the home screen you swipe up from the bottom of the display. To access the multitasking mode, you swipe up from the bottom halfway and hold for one second.

Touch ID was one of the greatest additions to the iPhone, but with the removal of the home button, Touch ID went with it. Apple’s replacement? Face ID. Face ID uses the TrueDepth camera at the top of the screen to scan your face and use facial landmarks to identify you. Face ID can unlock your phone in a fraction of a second and can also recognize subtle changes to your face, such as growing a beard, wearing a hat, or even while wearing most sunglasses. Face ID is so accurate that it cannot be fooled by a picture or even a mask, like many Samsung phones. The rear facing camera has a 13 megapixel, dual lense sensor.

The iPhone X has an A11 Bionic chip inside, making it 70% faster than the iPhone 7. The price starts at $999 for the 64GB model and $1149 for the 256GB model. This makes it the most expensive iPhone ever.

4K Apple TV

The 4K Apple TV is the newest addition to the Apple TV line. It allows for 4K streaming, which is 4X better than 1080p TVs. Standard TVs only have 1080 pixels per square inch, while the 4K Apple TV has 4,000 pixels per square inch. This allows for much crisper images and more vibrant colors. The new Apple TV starts at $179 for the 32GB model and $199 for the 64GB model.

The 4K Apple TV is available for preorder on September 22, 2017. The watch and iPhone 8/8+ were available for preorder on September 14, 2017, and the iPhone X is available for preorder on October 27, 2017.

Technology is changing so fast that kids today could never imagine the struggle before we had communication around the whole world. While Steve Jobs may be gone, his legacy will live on forever in the pixels on our phones.
